HISTORY OF ST ALOYSIUS HSS KOLLAM Education should bring about an all round development of personality of students. It is an essential human virtue. Man becomes “MAN” through education. He is what education makes him. Aristotle wrote, “Educated men are as much superior to uneducated as the living are to the dead” St.Aloysius school was opened on May 1st, 1896 by his lordship Rt Rev. Dr. ferdimand ossi, to give english education to the catholic boys of quilon,but hindus and muslims were also admitted. The school began with 3 teachers and 58 pupils. There were 5 classes. The highest was from II is class or standard 6 3rd form in1898. The main building was put up in 1900. 5th form was added in 1902 and in the same year, the school was recognized by the state and placed under the grant-in-aid system. In 1903,the matriculation class was formed and the school was reognized by the madras university. In may 1935,the Christian Brothers of Ireland was requested to take over the management of the school by bishop benziger . The brothers took a keen interest in Religious,Instructions,Athletics and Games. They took great pains to teach the bots English. The school was raised to an enviable excellence with their hardwork. They also came up with many changes for the good of the school. When they left kollam, the school management was handed over to kollam diocese in November1,1967. The Irish brother's grafted what was best in their Irish schools and soon became recognized as teachers of European education in India . The history of St.Aloysius is not over. It will continue till the last student and the last teacher is in the school.
